As a Gold Rights Respecting School, we promote the rights of every child and with that, allow the children to share their thoughts, opinions, and suggestions freely.  Our school council members work collaboratively to make our school a better place for all our Barley Fields family.  Members meet regularly to discuss upcoming events in school, explore key topics and suggest ways in which we can improve the school environment. They act as a link between children and staff, helping to ensure that everyone’s voice is heard.  Whether when planning a charity fundraiser, suggesting changes to school rules, or making the playground more fun, our School Council plays an active role in making the school a happy and fair place for all children.

Linking to the fundamental British Values, our school council members are elected to serve in a democratic process. They complete an application form, giving them a valuable insight into the world of work and are elected on the strength of their manifesto.  Children from the whole school engage in voting at an internal polling station and school council members are chosen based on the amounts of votes cast per candidate.  This process links with our pillar of growth mindset as the children must demonstrate resilience throughout the application and voting process.

Our school council members not only are exemplary pupils but also do their upmost to promote each child’s rights and responsibilities within the school agenda and all have the remit to make our school the very best place we can.
